The Rev. Dr. Philip J. Paradine was called to be Vicar of St. Luke's, Simeon in October 2008. Graduating from Virginia Theological Seminary (1997, M.Div) he was ordained as a priest by Bishop Colin Jones in 1998. Phil has served as Priest-in-Charge at Emmanuel Episcopal, Alexandria, Rector of St. Thomas' Episcopal, Christiansburg, VA; Interim Rector, Trinity Episcopal, Martinsburg, WV and Priest-in Charge, St. Paul's Episcopal, WA. He was awarded a Doctorate in Congregational Development studies from Seabury-Western in 2003. Phil first experienced the call to ordained ministry while attending a mission church in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he was serving as diplomat with the Canadian government. His secular career, as an engineer specializing in water resource and sundry development projects, was completed with the World Bank in Washington, D.C. Recently he has been applying his previous work skills to tutoring chemistry, physics and math in the Fairfax county school system for adjudicated youth. He holds a Bachelor of Science ('67) from the University of London and a Masters in Engineering('76) from the University of Ottawa. His spouse, Carter Kimsey, a cradle Episcopalian from Norfolk, Virginia, is completing a career with the National Science Foundation. She and Phil look forward to settling in the beautiful setting of the area around Simeon. There are four children, two boys, two girls and six grand-children, aged between one and sixteen. While not earning a living in their various professions everybody in the family is involved in sports or travelling to see each other.
